I am not against england in any way as i am a liverpool fan and i think it would be a bit hypocritical not to want the likes of gerrard and carragher to do well.

a few points i said before the tournament started:

1/ there is no place in the side for gerrard and lampard in the centre of midfield. The management and press seem obsessed with this holding midfielder role. Lampard does great when he has makalele behind him and gerrard with alonso likewise. Its got to be one or the other and it should have been gerrard. Lampard had an awful tournament and gerrard was not all that much better but finished as top scorer and should have been utilised better.

2/ I said that beckham shouldnt be in the side only a few days ago and got slated for it. If all you want from a right midfielder is a player that can kick a dead ball decently, then there is a problem. His delivery throughout the tournament has been pretty poor overall but did score a free kick, cross one ball in that led to a goal..and forced one goal from a free kick. Thats all he did. He never got back to defend, looked awful defending set plays and pulled out of every tackle he went in for. Aaron lennon or shaun wright phillips would have terrorised some of the weak defences that england came up against....ecuador and t&t being the most obvious. Beckham should call it a day at international level because as long as he is available he will keep getting picked....and having less influence as time goes on.

3/ The captaincy. Again beckham. whats the point of having him as a captain and asking john terry and ray winstone to deliver motivational speeches. John terry is a colossus..he leads by example and never stops screaming and trying to lift his own players. beckham is captain because he does adverts for gillete and looks good on adverts.

4/ Wayne rooney. He never should have been taken. The weight of expectation that was on him even fully fit was far too much. to take the lad weeks after breaking his foot, play him up front on his own isolated and expect him to win games for you is bizzarre. Jermaine Defoe and darren bent should have gone. Fit forwards who have pace and will always score goals. One thing i will say is rooney is becoming a bit of a liability. its getting to the stage when, if things arent going his way, he lashes out (the way ronaldo acted was disgraceful mind you and i dont think rooney should have been sent off)

I think england fans should be glad to see the back of sven really. 6 million a year for producing nothing. On paper england arguably have the best side in the world and they produced nothing at this tournament. Look at managers like scholari...on his feet, screaming and shouting and always trying to organise his troops. how are england meant to be motivated by a lifeless bloke that just sits there motionless while his backroom staff scream and shout and write stuff down on paper. I really hope mclaren doesent just follow his lead and carry on automatically handing out places to owen and beckham because of their reputations
