Crablin's comments on the essence of DiS
In a reply to some comments in another thread, Crablin said the
following: "Drowned in Sound has become a respected and exciting music community."
I wonder how one defines "exciting" music community. Are the posters
excited when they post? Do the contents of the boards cause excitement in
the readers?
He, Crablin, stated "My responsibility is to ensure (or aim for) a website that is
known for its ability to source and promote great new music,
cover the exciting exisiting bands."
Now, it is true that the contirbutors, via the use of free gig entry and free
promotional CDs, are able to listen to new artists and comment upon their music. However,
against what norm is DiS to be known for talking about new artists?
"I aim to make Drowned in Sound a
place that raises thoughts in heads"
It can be assumed that the above comment, though worthy in a general sense, is, on DiS,
applied only to the heads of a target demographic.
"and builds on the exceptional community of music junkies and obsessives
who populate these boards."
Note that he didn't say, for example, "helps to build".
