Putting songs into context
I was musing this morning whilst perambulating somewhat wistfully on top of the 133 listen to Geoff Goddard's fucked up non hit from 1966 'Sky Men' when i suddenly thought about how exciting/weird it must have been to hear the most bizarre/innovative pop singles of the last 40 years, regardless of how hackneyed or over referenced they sound now. Do you think out kids and THEIR kids will think this about Eammon's Fuck You Right Back and Angels for example. I'm on about chart hits here, is it possible that off kilter songs can 'grab' the public's imagination like it did for our parents and maybe even some of us?
This isn't a whine for the past - its a clarion call to the erm future?
