Today is th 20th Anniversary...
...Of the killing of Swedish Prime Minister Olof Palme
The murder remains unsolved despite the lengthy and ongoing (not to mention expensive) investigation
He was fatally shot twice on the way home from the cinema on February 28th 1986 in the middle of Stockholm
There is much evidence to suggest that the former Apartheid government of South Africa was involved in his killing and even more that implicates the swedish police in 'negligence and dereliction' of duty.
It is even suggested by some that his close friend, adviser and UN Commissioner to Namibia/South West Africa - Bernt Carlsson - was actually the prime target of the Lockerbie air bombing - which, if you read the evidence, is entirely plausible.
These are two of FIVE prominent Swedish politicians who have either been murdered or have died in mysterious circumstances in the last 50 years.
Conspiracy theories aside - it remains to be said that Olof Palme was one of the few western leaders to have publicly denounced America's bombing of Vietnam, the proliferation of nuclear arms and the apartheid government of South Africa.
He gave political and financial support to the ANC and the PLO as well as meeting and endorsing Fidel Castro
a number of times.
Whether this agrees with your politics or not it should surely be recognised that Olof Palme was an exceptional individual who resisted the very Swedish mindset of 'conflict avoidance' and instead attached very real personal values to his leadership.
Maybe that's what got him shot in the end. So it goes.
Anyway, as a mark of the anniversary of the murder I am making a personal request to all of you DiSsers to take the time to read this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olof_Palme
and the relevant links - I personally believe in the South Africa connection as it certainly sheds some light on much shady dealing.
Olof Palme RIP - may your killer(s) one day be caught.
Today I am going to visit both the murder location and his nearby grave.
I hope some of you over there on Clique Street, E1 will bump this thread and allow for some DiScussion
thanks
