At first I thought he was an odd choice. His nouveau intellectual fashionista status and thoughtful posturing might prove hard to swallow for a nation weened on 'Faeces Flinging Hour'.

I, like most people, was amazed to see John being such an active participant in the Morris Dancing task. And his karaoke duet with Pete Burns on 'bet you look good on a dancefloor' was as hammy as it was charming.

Almost.. too charming.

Is brainlove cynically trying to raise his own profile? Was he really just there to raise awareness of tennis elbow in spaniels? Unlikely.

It's no coincidence that Junkplanet's 'Not if you were the last planet on earth' has shot from #745 to #4 in the charts since the show ended. And his forthcoming duet with Katie Melua only adds weight to the notion that, sadly, Brainlove has lost his edge.
