Live/go to uni in Chester, Sheffield or Liverpool?

The constant barrage of mail landing on my doormat from these three unis (and Sunderland, but thats just NOT happening) suggests its probably time to start contemplating where to spend the next three years of my life.

I will be basing my choice purely on academic factors; in other words, I'd be chuffed if someone could tell me a bit more about the nightlife/music scene or lack thereof in Chester, as that may be the only thing preventing me from launching head-long into what I see to be pretty much a Welsh* version of Durham. Which is no bad thing, as Durham is cracking in many aspects.
