Kids into rock stars
I saw a kid on the tube, can't have been more than ten or eleven years old, travelling home with his dad from the BabyShambles Brixton Academy gig cradling in his lap a 2006 Pete Docherty calender.
This worried and upset me a little. Sure I had idols, most of them rock stars too, at that age. But they were just that: rock stars. None of them had every single column inch of the NME or a media circus surrounding them; and worst of all have widely publicised crack and heroin addictions.
In each picture of Pete (clearly visible from half-a-carriage away) he looked ghostly and in 90% of them, totally fucked.
Maybe I'm wrong, but surely there's something inately wrong in kids of that age idolising this guy.
