not like, the most evil or damaging or anything like that, but the industries where everything they produce is basically shite

case in point: GREETING CARDS

how many times have you gone and had to buy a birthday card, or a congratulations card, and they're all horrific. twee, shallow, insincere, tacky, tat. you have to root through hundreds and hundreds at least to find one that's vaguely ok. so you buy one and you're thinking "that'll do", which is terrible. it's a friend's birthday and you've just bought them something even you know is terrible. the odd good greeting card exists, but such a high % of them are fucking awful, it's amazing this is still an industry, and we haven't gone "you know what, there must be better ways of showing affection/appreciation/whatever to people we like

anyone think of an industry producing generally worse stuff than the greeting card industry?
