I've got an old PC that doesn't turn on any more (the power comes on, but nothing appears on screen, and the monitor is okay). I'm not bothered about getting it working again, but I would like to get the contents of the hard drive onto my laptop or an external hard drive, as it's got music/photos/etc.

What's my best option here? Take it into a computer shop, or is there something relatively simple I could do myself?
