I'm just finishing reading the latest Bill Bryson book and it's so disappointing. I've probably read Notes from a Small Island and the Lost Continent a dozen times each, but this new one - which is a fair old retread of Small Island anyway - is making me cringe. When he was a bumbling fish out of water his righteous indignation was funny. Now he's a wealthy (casually mentions his big house in the country and flat in Kensington), well known author, it reads really badly when he taking the piss out of hapless shop assistants and poor people who he doesn't like the look of. Though he's always come across as a big lefty before, some of his arguments, especially around housing, are really dubious here. Proper old man yells at cloud stuff. Also, even though he takes loads of time to berate museums and stuff for making mistakes in their displays, he has a howler when he talks completely wrongly about Katie Price.

Oh, and at one point he refers to Caitlyn Jenner as "Bruce Jenner in drag".
