What are people's thoughts on these, seen many?

i'm currently halfway through Birth of a Nation, which although is undeniably problematic, is interesting to watch

aside from that all I have seen are a handful of the classics - City Lights, Metropolis, Passion of Joan of Arc, Battleship Potemkin

anyone got any recommendations?
