I know you're meant to be grateful but some stuff is just absolute tat.

Sixth form boyfriend bought me a toy plastic guitar for my birthday. As in, no strings, just one or two buttons that if pressed made zany noises. Utterly pointless. However, this was marginally better than the birthday gift he made for a later girlfriend (they'd been together for 2 years at this point) - a homemade video of him cycling and singing the Pearl Harbour Sucks song from Team America.

In the year where Joe McElderry and Rage Against The Machine were battling it out for Christmas number 1, my nan randomly bought me a copy of Joe's single as a gift. Not even a Christmas present. I don't watch X Factor. I literally have no idea what possessed her to buy it.
