I did Sociology at uni having not done it before. First seminar I put my hand up and asked 'What's hegemony?', also pronouncing the word wrong.

The lecturer said that if I didn't know what that word meant then I had no place studying sociology at uni and I may as well leave now because I was in the wrong degree.
