Turner Prize announcement anyone?
A partnership between an architecture/design/art collective called Assemble and a local community in Liverpool have won it for their bottom-up regeneration of some condemned Victorian terraces.
I saw the exhibition last week and didn't really get the Assemble one - until I watched the accompanying short film, which got me right behind it. There are loads of projects like this out there, with artists and communities (and communities of artists) working together to transform places, and I'd never really spent much time thinking about them in terms of the art establishment and where they fit in.
I'm really happy they won it, and think it could be an equally important shift in the "serious" art world as that which happened in the 80s/90s around YBAs and all that.
