Meeting like-minded people
Hi everyone,
I've been a lurker on these forums for about two years now, and have finally decided to put in an appearance.
A little bit about me...
So, throughout college and uni, I've struggled to find people who genuinely have the same music, values and attitudes in common with me. This isn't to suggest I was never popular; I like speaking to people, and people are never hostile when I am around in person, but I have sustained very few 'true' friendships... and most friendships I've tried to develop have petered out after about six months to a year.
I think this is because people either don't 'get' me, life happens, or we have very little in common to justify carrying on.
So my point is; is there a tactic or meet-up area for building relationships with people who have niche interests, such as alternative music?
The Rock Soc at my university was useless for that purpose, because unless you wore an AC/DC shirt, they couldn't give a fuck.
As an observer from the outside, you guys make it look so easy.
I feel sad reaching out to people in the form of an Internet post -- but hey, it is what it is.
If you want to know more about me, then I've listed the particular band I listen to in my profile page. Personally, I'm somewhere between 'odd and quirky' and appreciating sardonic banter.
Basically what I'm trying to say is I 'get' you guys.
Feel free to get to know me via this thread, if you want to. Or not, y'know. It's all cool.
