the fashion problem
so, thanks to DiS, I ended up arguing with my elegantly-veiled today
yesterday I expressed on here a distaste for Urban Outfitters, and today, armed with various links about their dubious to outright shitty practices, revealed it to her - although I could have simply kept it to 'they appropriate indie design and give it a markup; their commercial aesthetic is horrendous'
her thrust was that yeah whatever, shitty people in marketing make shitty decisions, but where else would I have the time to find nice fashionable clothes? I could spend ages in vintage boutiques and charity shops, or on Ebay, but UO have it right there for you.
then she observed that on the moral scale of things, Primark are probably worse considering how they treat their employees. I wasn't sure how to respond to this
then she said that if UO didn't exist she'd go to Topshop. I wasn't sure how to respond to this either
then she said I was a hypocrite because I eat meat. I got annoyed
so like, what is the answer? how do you score nice clothes (especially if you are female - she said it was overwhelmingly a female problem) if you don't want to spend ages looking for nice clothes? I am convinced UO is not the answer, but what is?
n.b. I never go clothes-shopping ever - I wear old things and band shirts
