oh shit, ISIS are near Palmyra.
I feel uncomfortable about mentioning this given that everyday they are hurting people, so really it might be wrong to mention worry that they might destroy buildings, but ever since I was a child I have wanted to go to Palmyra.....I think it may have been because of a poem that I checked it out. I was intending to do it one day.

I suppose that ISIS Might not destroy it, they might instead make it a base, using the buildings as 'an antiquity shield' against air attack, although human shields against this do not always work (I guess because the humans in the shield are largely anonymous to the media). It would almost be a terrible thing if the ruins DID protect ISIS from attack when in other cases civilian human proximity has failed to prevent attacks that cause huge collateral damage.
