Netan-YAHOO
someone else made that pun before and a lot better than me, but whatever
so, Netanyahu and his right-wing lot have won another election in Israel, and while generally people winning elections in other countries isn't huge news, this is because a) well, it's Israel, and b) it was unexpected. here, have a BBC news piece
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-31933326
on the surface, this (like when all right-wing governments get elected, in my imho humble opinion) doesn't seem like good news for anyone. Palestinians continue to get shittier treatment than they would under a more moderate leader. Israel will continue to be the source of protests from people and countries, and most likely another round of BDS (boycotts, divestments, sanctions) will punch a hole in its economy, oh AND it's going to be the cold shoulder from the US at least until the next presidential election (and possibly beyond)
following a bunch of people similar to me politically on twitter, a lot of the words mentioned re: Bibi winning despite polls saying otherwise are "lowest common denominator" and "scare tactics". which seems a bit disingenuous when they're the default state of most elections when they get predictions right
here's another article, right. it's a long one, but yeah http://www.theatlantic.com/features/archive/2015/03/is-it-time-for-the-jews-to-leave-europe/386279/
it's about anti-semitic actions in Europe in general, and it's by Jeffrey Goldberg who i really dislike, but the question i was asking in the run-up to this was whether the election result might affect the level of anti-Semitism in the wider world. so yeah, let's all talk about that too
