Pretty exciting, isn’t it? One of 3 teams are going to lift a trophy In about 7 weeks. I’ve been growing my nails especially. New Zealand are surely the team to beat. But Australia and perhaps to a lesser extent, South Africa will fancy their chances of causing an upset which will give their nation great momentum going into the Rugby Union WC later this year.
England are beginning to be hyped, off the back of a couple of victories against a lacklustre Indian team on bouncy wickets, on which they won’t be playing again, and a heavy warm up defeat of the Windies, who are potentially on the brink of collapse one way or another. Can’t wait for Aus and NZ to tear Eng apart in the first 2 games. If they are to stand any chance (of getting to the Semis), they will need to win the rest of their group games, which they should, but it’s England.
Does anyone really expect any of the Subcontinent teams to go far? Pakistan possibly look the strongest, despite having had their mainline chucker rather suspiciously targeted for suspension. Sri Lanka and India haven’t looked too promising in antipodean conditions of late. Could Bangladesh make the quarters?
Ireland have a decent recent record of upsetting Test nations at World Cups, resulting in suggestions they will once again progress from the group stage. Then again, they were thrashed by Paul Collingwood’s team of presumed nurdlers the other day.
Some other teams also play cricket.
AOB?
