1st class degree, or 2:1 with work experience?

Is there really any point in aiming for a 1st class degree anymore? Does it really put you at that much of an advantage over someone with a 2:1?

I know it can help get you more funding for a masters, but apparently you can get funding for a masters now regardless (not that I'm considering doing one).
