did you, or did you ever know of anyone who got their christmas stocking stuff in a pair of tights?

my mum would cut one leg off and fill the other leg with stocking fillers, put it at the end of my bed while i was asleep. i grew up thinking this is how it's done in the UK, but when i google it, absolutely nothing shows up.
