Americans using "Victorian" to describe that particular time period
Have been reading a book by a writer that made reference to Victorian-era houses in Maryland, and it struck me as quite an unusual thing to see it applied to the US. I hadn't really thought about it ever before, but I guess if I had I would have thought it wasn't a term they would use, for multiple reasons, not least because all Americans despise the Queen and would murder her in cold blood if you gave them half the chance.
Anyone have any particular insight into whether it's a correct usage or not?
