OH MY GOD I HAD SUCH A LONG POST WRITTEN OUT BUT THEN DIS DEMANDED I LOG IN AGAIN AND NOW IT IS ALL GONE

Short version: some people have completely unrealistic expectations about what it means to stay in a fucking ten people dorm. Might type it all out again tomorrow. In any case I imagine I will be updating this thread regularly during the next week and a half.
