We have just had at least 5 men trying to get in to the upstairs of our flat. Our flat is designed so the kitchen and living room is upstairs and the bedrooms are downstairs. I sleep pretty badly anyway but I was dosing off and I heard constant banging. I thought that living in a busy area, it might be next door or something. But it continued on, and on until the walls started shaking.

I kept all lights off but crept upstairs and saw at least two men on our rooftop trying to get through our rooftop window. It was open a bit but they had tools and was bashing it hard trying to crack the glass. My first initial (perhaps stupid) reaction was to shout so i started shouting, 'oi you fuckers' and made sure I closed the rooftop window. They didn't stop, two other guys are trying to get in through our fire exit door at the same time. So I closed all the windows, ran downstairs and called 999. the police were here within five minutes to be fair to them. Whilst i was on the phone to the woman they still continued to try and get in, knowing that someone was in. This is what upsets me the most. We have a fire exit door that goes out on to a rooftop (we're on top floor). SO they probably had easy access to the roof via fire steps.

Anyway, not sure why I'm posting here but please make sure you close your windows...I know it's boiling hot. The police were fantastic, they did thorough checks outside , got a helicopter to circle the whole area and so i gave them a bit of chocolate when they left.

What if these guys knew two girls lived here and have been watching or something? How would they know there's a rooftop window? Why did they keep trying to get in knowing someone was shouting at them? Life is fucking scary.
