Why, on the odd occasion when you're in a hurry and you accidentally stick your debit card into the card reader after selecting "Pay Now" - but, crucially, forgetting to select "Payment Type" on screen - does the screen flash up with a "please select card as payment type" message?

If it can tell that you've inserted your card, which it has to in order to provide that message, WHY does it need you to take your card out, push the option for "card" on the screen, and then re-insert your card again? WHY
