when hopelessly perusing zoopla type sites to see how unachievable home ownership is I always skip over the shared ownership ones, assumed the rent share paid on top of the mortgage would make it impossible, didn't realise how subsidised the rent was and the deposit levels are really quite small. For the same amount as I would be able to pay to rent a tiny studio, I could get to live in a proper flat, seems worth it just for that, getting to own a share is a bonus. Kind of seems to good to be true, wondering whether it is. Council and housing association tenants, key workers and armed forced get priority, does anyone know whether it is rare for non-priority people to get on this scheme?
