Acceptable sauce substitutions
oh this is a major buigbear, whenever you buy supermarket sushi 9and I know you probably deserve everything you get if you do, but bear with me) you NEVER get enough soy sauce in that little vial.
I usually have soy in the cupboard of work but it's gone (I may actually have used it all but anyway).
My sushi today was quite dry and teh little soy contained slipped out of my hands when I was opening it (oily fish fingers) and skited across my desk sprayign the fontract i'm working on, so I must have got about 2ml or something out of it.
I ca't eat dry sushi, so I made the best of a bad situaton and filled up the dipping tray with balsamic vinegar (I always have at least one bottle in my work fridge) and a bit of salt to mimic the soy saltiness.
IT WAS FUCKING MAGIC. going to have salty balsamic with my sushi all the time from now on.
Erm- run out of hollandaise for your eggs benedit and can't be bothered making it? Bit of mayo and a squirt of lemon juice and black peper will do. (never done this but imagine it's ok.)
