genetic engineering (bit heavy for a Sunday probably)

Is it too far to genetically engineer human beings so they are prevented from e.g. getting a form of cancer in later life that they would have got due to genetic inheritance?
Is it no different from treating something and trying to cure their cancer by simply removing the possibility of getting it before they're even conceived or is too far and an abuse of power which humans should not have the 'right' to have?
