In this thread: helpful advice about home improvement.

I'll kick things off - I am trying to remove a layer of varnish from a wood floor so that I can re-varnish with a clear (or lighter) tone. I've started to try scraping it off but I reckon it'll take me about 20 hours at this rate! I've also heard not-great things about industrial sanders (i.e. that they make a fuck-load of mess). Any advice, DIYers?
