How to play hardball with a landlord
My relatively new flat is good but for a virtually non-existent supply of hot water to kitchen/bathroom taps (shower is separate system). At best it provides a trickle of boiling water, and has a hairline trigger to ice cold.
A contractor assessed it and recommended a pump to increase the pressure to normal (seriously, it's worse than any tap I've ever seen). The property manager is advising that the landlord does not want to pay for a pump.
And that's it. I've said 'come on, this is ridiculous', and the only answer I get it is that the landlord doesn't want to buy it. And I think, we'll I don't want to pay rent. But that's a bit of a nuclear option.
Any thoughts on dealing with a landlord who refuses to pay for necessary maintenance? (given that I otherwise like the flat and don't really want to move out)
