Every time I open a thread the first thing I look at is my number of messages on the top right of the screen in case it has changed. It's been an even ten for ages now and I am getting quite anxious that it might change to an odd number.

I've also started to have regular clicking frenzies on the refresh button on my work inbox in case it causes a new email to arrive. It never does.

What does this all mean?
