you could say there's possibly a smokescreen there:

used to do TV shows with and for a child audience - appearing at ease with the children and can make them laugh etc. this makes the children like him cos he's entertaining and the adults like him as well cos he seems like a friendly and paternal trustworthy uncle.

animal hospital - he's so compassionate look how much he cares about the injured and abused animals. and remember how good he used to be with kids as well what a lovely man i wish he was my grandad. wouldn't hurt a fly.

paints the queen - acquainting himself with royalty to suggest that he's now of a higher honour and untouchable
