I'm in Paris this week and I kind of don't want to be
BACKSTORY
My boyfriend always wanted to go to Paris. I'm not that fussed. For Christmas, I booked us a trip to Paris for this weekend. On our previous holiday together I'd taken charge a bit and it had been a cause of minor conflict, so I said he could be in control of everything this time.
Three days after Christmas, he told me he'd cheated on me with one of his best friends back in October. We split up. I cancelled the hotel, but couldn't cancel the flights so decided to book into a cheap hostel in Belleville and at least have a look around.
Long story short, as of this past weekend, we're back together. But he can't afford his own accommodation right now (I was going to pay but can no longer afford it) and it's probably a bad idea at a bit of a delicate time.
So the end result is I'm in Paris this weekend and I don't really have much idea of what to do. I'm not really that enthused about the city in general. Never been before, but there are plenty of European cities I'd rather see first.
At the moment I'm planning to spend the Saturday seeing the Eiffel Tower and Notre Dame and all that crap. Maybe do the walking tour as well to see some more of the sights. Is a river cruise worth a look? Probably freezing this time of year. Sunday I was going to go to the catacombs.
That's about it so far. Leaves me with many hours to fill, and two days to fill them. I don't have much money, but I have a go-getting attitude and a cheeky smile. I have found everywhere in Paris seems to be several miles from anything else, which is quite annoying, as I usually like to spend city breaks walking between things and getting a sense of the city as I go. I think I'm going to have to use the metro to get round everywhere.
Please tell me what to do. I'm considering not going. But I do kind of want to go. I feel like I should go.
