"(blank) is almost like another character in the story"
seems like every discussion of a film / book / narrative based thing includes this annoying statement.
the (blank) tends to be a place, but not always. I heard Edith Bowman interviewing David O Russell t'other day and she asked him if the music was almost like another character in the film. The directors always go 'Absolutely' as if the interviewer has offered some priceless, mindblowing insight/analysis of the film, when in actuality, it is the most banal, cliched comment ever.
So, if everyone could please stop doing this now that'd be great.
