Hello DiS braintrust.

A few friends and I want to go in together on a cottage/villa/whatever in Italy in the summer for a couple weeks.

I don't know Italy enough to know where to even start looking. Can someone make my decisions for me? Where have you been in Italy that would lend itself beautifully to this idea?
