Just overheard some twattishness in work
Not really sure what to do to be honest. I was just in the breakroom heating up some soup and flicking through the paper, a couple of other colleagues were there who I am on nodding terms but no more. One of them was talking to the other about the Somali population of Bristol and I could sense they were going to be dicks about it. Then he came out with "I am not a racist but I really don't like Somalians. They are all so rude, they are smelly...". He carried on but I stormed out in a bit of a huff muttering "fuck this" under my breath.
Now I don't think this is acceptable at all to broadcast how you think a whole country's citizens smell bad, but I am in a bit of a quandary over it. Reporting it would be pretty obvious it was me, plus I don't want to get tangled up in some web of corporate bullcrap and be the kind of person who reports things to managers. I wish I had just said "are you fucking serious" to him before shaking my head and walking out but that ship has sailed. Accepting he is a dick and ignoring it would mean I am a pussy and not standing up against racism, this isn't the first time myself and others have overheard "debates" along these lines about immigrants and other nationalities in the break room before.
So, erm, thoughts? Any anecdotes about similar things in your line of work?
