Falling asleep on public transport
Inspired by news that London Underground is to run 24 hours. Whilst I think it's great news, I'm slightly aggrieved by the fact that youngsters will never have to face the struggle of battling their way home on night buses cos they've missed the tube.
Anyway, what's your worst journey home/worst place woken up/general anecdotes?
Worst:
After my last leaving do. Tubes had shut so got on a train at Kings X that stopped at Alexandra Palace - 20 mins from my old house. Fell asleep, woke up in Hertfordshire. Phone died, so sat at the platform til 5:30, got a train to Enfield, then a cab. Home by 7:00.
Funniest:
In 1999, I'd just graduated and was living at my Dad's in North Finchley. Went drinking after work midweek, got hammered, woke up at High Barnet. Was walking along the platform and saw a girl zigzagging towards the exit, clearly very drunk. Get a bit closer and realise that it's my sister. She'd also been out drinking with work mates and had fallen asleep on the same tube.
We carry on walking to get the night bus, then see some pissed up bloke staggering along - realise its my Dad. He'd also been out drinking with work mates and had fallen asleep on the same tube.
He paid for a cab on the condition we didn't tell my stepmum how pissed he was. Sorted.
