NFL WEEK 8: WEMBLEY, AGAIN?
So the NFL is on our shores for the second time this season, and there really doesn't seem to be much of a buzz this time. I've seen a few jerseys today (yes, even a Blane Gabbert one) but there doesn't seem to be the same sense of excitement as a month ago for the Vikings/Steelers, lord knows what it's gonna be like when we get 3 games next year. And if that wasn't enough, the rest of the weekend's schedule doesn't have a looker among em, kicked off by an easy win for Carolina at the struggling Tampa Bay Bucs. ANYWAY...
Remember folks, daylights savings gets us an hour closer this week:
SKY SPORTS, 5PM
SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS (5-2) VS. JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS (0-7) (WEMBLEY)
What is there to saw about this really other than "oh they're giving the Jacksonville fans a rest this week, that's nice of them". As nice as it is to have such a talented side as the Niners on our shores, it all feels a bit irrelevant when they're playing easily the worst team in the league. Jags will be looking to impress their new fans when they move to London in a few times, but this really is no contest (SF by 7+)
SKY SPORTS, 8:25PM
WASHINGTON REDSKINS (2-4) @ DENVER BRONCOS (6-1)
The skins have been showing some progress recently as Mike Shanahan returns to Mile High, and if they can get their offence going could provide some challenge to Denver. But ultimately, Peyton is gonna be pissed at losing his glorious homecoming last weekend, and against THAT secondary? This could get ugly. (DEN by 7+)
CHANNEL 4, 00:30AM
GREEN BAY PACKERS (4-2) @ MINNESOTA VIKINGS (1-5)
Even the primetime game can only provide morbid curiosity this week, as we get answers to the questions a)Just who the hell is QBing in Minnesota and does it matter? b)Can Josh Freeman or Christian Ponder fall any lower? c)Just how much can the Packers rack up the score on their 3rd/4th string offensive corps? d)Will Greg Jennings get some sort of revenge? e)Where is AP's mind? Most likely scenario, Minnesota continue to embarass themselves and Green Bay default behind Aaron Rodgers, could be the best or worst game of the weekend (GB by 4-5)
MONDAY,
00:40AM, EUROPSPORT
SEATTLE SEAHAWKS (6-1) @ ST LOUIS RAMS (3-4)
So Percy Harvin won't return this week, but the Rams are still without a definite starting QB after Sam Bradford's injury, so who the hell knows what they'll put out there (currently looks like Brady Quinn #Favrewatch). Should be fairly routine for Seattle then. (SEA by 4-5)
THE REST:
DALLAS COWBOYS (4-3) @ DETROIT LIONS (4-3) -Probably the best prospect for the weekend, the thanksgiving teams meet-up in a rare situation where they both are playing reasonably well. Both are fairly well balanced, which should make this a pretty interesting match but i'll take the home team (by 3)
CLEVELAND BROWNS (3-4) @ KANSAS CITY (7-0) - Poor Cleveland, just when things seem to be looking up for them Brandon Weeden returns and drops out in the space of a week, leaving Jason Campbell to face the frankly terrifying (and undefeated) Kansas City defence (KC by 4-5)
MIAMI DOLPHINS (3-3) @ NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (5-2) - New England will be angry at their loss to the Jets, but lack players to be comfortable against a refreshed and exciting Fins side (NE by 3)
BUFFALO BILLS (3-3) @ NEW ORLEANS SAINTS (5-1) - Speaking of angry, New Orleans have had a week to stew over the Brady Miracle, not good news for visiting Buffalo (NO by 7)
NEW YORK GIANTS (1-6) @ PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (3-4) - Philly had a ridiculous week losing to Dallas, where as Big Blue looked like a football team again. Mike Vick is back for this which, with some pressure on Eli, will probably see them through this (PHI by 4-5)
LATES:
NEW YORK JETS (4-3) @ CINCINNATI BENGALS (5-2) - Those resilient Jets just won't die and could cause problems for Cincy, but the Bengals are too balanced to lose this at home (CIN by 4-5)
PITTSBURGH STEELERS (2-4) @ OAKLAND RAIDERS (2-4) - Eugh, this won't be fun, we're a long way from the 70s here guys. (PIT by 3)
ATLANTA FALCONS (2-4) @ ARIZONA CARDINALS (3-4) - Two fairly disappointing seasons so far here, Falcons should really have enough though, Patrick Peterson aside (ATL by 4-5)
So that's us, bit of a shame the weekend the games are an hour earlier are fairly uninspiring but i'm sure we'll find some fun all the same. There's always Fantasy...
