Apologies in advance for this one, I've not had much sleep recently, so am potentially delirious, but I was thinking in the shower this morning about animals and whether they know they're pregnant.

I've watched on the telly before big mammals giving birth, and the mum just kind of hunkers down as if she's doing a massive poo and then looks somewhat surprised and a bit dismayed when it moves, and then a bit like 'oh ok, I guess you're with me' at her offspring.

So, do animals know they're up the stick?
