So I recently started reading Infinite Jest, which is great (don't worry, this isn't another thread about that book), off the back of a number of mentions in threads on here.

I therefore thought it would be a great idea if we all took the time to recommend a great book that others might like. Provide a title, author and brief synopsis and feel free to this^ anyone elses choices that you agree with (i'll do mine in the first post).
