Hey. I have a student who is planning to move to England (Oxford) next week, and is asking me for advice about renting a flat. I'm fairly clueless about this kind of thing, and don't know if anything's changed since I was last in the UK.

What documents do you need to rent(I'm guessing passport and work contract)

Do foreigners get a rough ride from landlords and letting agents? (IE paying 6 months up front, ludicrously high deposits etc)

Do universities offer halls of residence places during the summer?

Are private landlords more or less reliable than letting agencies?
