In a nuclear age, the great danger is that democracy is vital for the future of humanity. Dictators are usually ruthless, mad and male. Proper democratic controls, through elections, a free press, the female vote and rights and freedoms under the law, help to protect us from war and destruction. A glance at the history of the last 100 years shows that democracies are not perfect, but generally provide prosperity and done threaten war in the same way as Hitler, Stalin, Moa, Kim Jong-il and many other dictators have done in this period.
