following on from the general wondering about questions all having a w in them (normally at the begining)

why can you change 'who' into 'whom'
and 'where' into 'whence'?

question 1) why doesnt when become whence? why doesnt where become whernce or wherm?

question 2) why is there no equivalent change for why and when and how?
