i'm not signed up to any tech help forums, nor am i willing to be...

some of you guys seem fairly clued up on tech and computer stuff, so:

two weeks ago today i got a new macbook pro, and everything's been running nicely. but yesterday i inserted a dvd (never used before Region 2 copy of Persepolis) into my macbook. it proceeded to make some weird whirring noises, before it ejected the disc after about 20 seconds.
i'm a little confused, as i've uploaded 6 or so CDs to my laptop and other dvds have worked.

is this a disc drive problem, or a problem with the dvd?
what's causing this certain disc to play up?
