Films I/you watched this weekend
Take This Waltz - I really didn't like this at all. It looked beautiful but any substance it had I found pretty reprehensible. It reminded me a lot of The Future in the woman-has/wants-an-affair stakes insofar as I had the same irritation with the absolute lack of any genuine humanity or depth the woman in question has and therefore why anyone would want an affair with her/how she would have anyone to have an affair on. Broad character quirks and little adorable, cutesy habits do not make a character believable or relatable and I could not have had less sympathy for her if I tried. I absolutely love Michelle Williams as well, I have no idea why she accepted this role, must have wanted a challenge but being able to create a person from the nothingness that she was given to work with was beyond even her.
Juno - Seen it before but it was on telly and I am always surprised by how much I like it (first ten minutes and last minute or so notwithstanding). Much more heart than it has any right to have and the supporting cast (Garner in particular) are absolutely wonderful. Kimya Dawson can do one though.
