Checked out 'To the Wonder' the other night and almost left in disgust (I ended up leaving dismayed)

It really was terrible. about a third of the audience left half way through in sheer disgust - I would have too, but still had a large rum and soda.

How can someone who created the masterpieces like Badlands and The Thin Red Line churn out such pretentious pap....and still get away with it?
