Should I read the Song of Ice and Fire books?
I don't know whether to commit or not. This weekend I re-read The Hedge Knight - a short story/novella written by George RR Martin, set in the world of Game of Thrones, but set 100 years before. It's in a collection called Legends which I was given as a kid, and I really loved the story, and I still really enjoyed it when re-reading it.
The issue is they're just so long, I've been powering through a book a week this year and think I'd get really dispirited by such lengthy books. Also people say the writing is pretty weak (though the The Hedge Knight is fine) but over 800 pages I'd probably get annoyed. The other issue is that I have the potential to go FULL GEEK over it - learning the family trees and shit. This probably isn't healthy.
Should I just watch the TV series instead? I feel like I know too many spoilers already.
