Holocaust Denial
Before I get started I should probably point out that I'm not a Holocaust denier, although I am open minded. Obviously with a subject with this degree of sensitivity, people tend to feel quite strongly one way or the other (and rightly so, too). Like a lot of controversial tragedies, there tends to be a lot of skepticism surrounding this. I'm not sure if it's because people have a difficult time dealing with something like this, deeply embedded racism or sympathizing, or maybe they've been convinced by some sort of other evidence, or lack thereof. One of the major points of holocaust is an inconsistency in evidence towards the gas chambers, how often they were used, and if there was actually an established plan by the Nazi's to systematically wipe out the Jews / Disabled / Gypsies etc. using them. A lot of people [erm, citation needed] seem to take the stance that the Allies exaggerated these claims in order to make out the Nazi's to be nastier and less human than they really were. For example, the death toll estimate of many death camps has dropped dramatically over the years after new findings.
Personally, be it 700,000 or 100,000 from camp to camp, it doesn't really make the situation any less horrendous.
Do you know anyone who's a Holocaust denier? Are you a holocaust denier? Are you a bit skeptical of some aspects of it?
Can we please keep the extreme reactions to what people post to a minimum? We all know what happened was dreadful and one of histories bleakest moments, so please reel in the over-reactions. I'm just curious as to what the general consensus is among the people of DiS.
Happy Easter Sunday everyone btw!
