Films I/you watched this weekend
All White in Barking/Men of the City - Marc Isaacs is great, preferred the Barking one to the city one but both were good and insightful. He's a fantastic documentarian in it's purest form, he just shows us the subjects, he doesn't judge them, he doesn't moralise he just shows and his films are all the better for it.
The Innkeepers - A bit weird, the two lead performances felt like they belonged in Disney/Nickelodeon films but the film itself was gruesome enough in parts to make the frivolity of the characters a bit weird and jarring. Neither good nor bad.
The Future - Blergh, Miranda July must be an absolute nightmare to spend time with. This film just made me pine for a film where July and her *endearing* personality quirks have to negotiate the real world with real fleshed-out people and were shown up as irritating shits. It reminded me of that Louie episode with Chloe fucking Sevigny which took the manic-pixie-dream-girl out of context and made her into a borderline psychotic. The film got a bit interesting in the final third but felt like a half-arsed version of a Gondry film by that point.
And you?
