what is the etiquette for visiting friends who've just had their first baby for the first time

we bought them a couple of big gifts as collective presents from our friend group but i'm popping along on my own later in the week (mum isn't quite up to lots of guests all at once) so do I take something myself?

whats the appropriate amount of cooing?

do I ask to hold him or wait to be offered?
